Creativity in Unpleasent Music
When exposed to heavy metal music, most people do not accept that it is talent but just noise, but if you actually sit down and listen to the individual instruments you will find that they are exceptionally talented. Heavy metal is one of my favorite music genres and it has been for years. As an active guitarist, this style of music has influenced me tremendously and has improved my talent as well. Although to some it may seem unpleasant to listen to because of the stereotypical screaming lyrics, I believe that it is a form of creativity because it was a new style of rock n roll. When comparing the music genres, rock music has the most sub genres compared to any other broad genre of music and heavy metal is different than any of them. This is a way to get creative in music.

You know, I was actually thinking about doing my inquiry project about something like this. Music and its genres and different followings have sparked so many kinds of creativity. So, you think it is a "new style of rock and roll"? And this heavy metal influences you? How does it influence you compared to other styles? Does your upbringing and friends push you towards this genre?
ReplyDeleteI was enlightened to heavy metal music just recently actually. Of course, like you said, I thought it was a bunch of noise and I couldn't handle the screaming. But over the course of the last year or so, I have been introduced into many new styles of music that I have come to appreciate, especially the alternative rock genre, which has made me want to pick the guitar back up again. When I started REALLY listening to some heavy metal music on XM radio, I realized that the guitar riffs are amazing. The sound they produce at the pace they produce it is unbelievable for me and could only dream of maybe some day being able to produce this sound myself. I agree that creativity at it's best can be seen in this form of music, even though I don't regularly listen to it.
ReplyDeleteI believe that any type of music is creative. You are right, the collaborations of music and voice are often complex and take talent to compose. Rock music is the most broad genre of them all. With this being an offshoot, it takes creativity and originality to creat something like this. I enjoy this style of music at certain times, and see the passion and effort that goes in to composing such music.

ReplyDeletei agree with mac, i feel like any type of music is creative as well. it takes time, and thought to create the music so why wouldnt it be creative just becausee a few people dont enjoy it? different people have different tastes. so not everyone is always going to have the same opinion.
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot. This falls into the question of what is creative to who? Different people view different things as creative, and music is one of those areas. I personally feel that the genre of music should not matter, but then again this is just me.
